Historical Background
A 1962 pamphlet celebrating 50 years of continuous banking service provided by the State Bank of Apopka. Opening on February 12, 1912, the State Bank of Apopka began with a capital structure of only $15,000 and total resources of approximately $30,000. As explained in the "history" portion of the inside pamphlet, the bank had a capital structure of approximately $600,000, with "more than 7,000 accounts, including many with addresses in other cities, states, and even foreign countries" as of 1962. The pamphlet explains that in 1912, the population of Apopka was about 350. There were no paved streets, electricity, water works, or a sewerage system. It was the bank that installed the first running water system in the city of Apopka. In addition, it financed the start of an electric light and water plant, which later became part of Florida Public Service Company. Due to demand and population growth, a new building to house the bank was erected in 1949. The pamphlet goes on to record that a second-floor addition and an enlarged ground floor were added in 1958. The pamphlet features an attractive midcentury design and full-color images.
