Historical Background

A formal resolution of condolence dated May 20, 2004, issued on Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church letterhead by Pastor Reverend R. D. Daniels and Secretary Bernadette H. Brunson, on behalf of the church's officers and members. Addressed to the family of Sister Marie Stapler Gladden, the document opens with Psalm 23 and offers the congregation's prayers and spiritual comfort. It notes that a copy of the resolution was to be placed in the church files, a standard practice for formal church resolutions honoring deceased members.
