Historical Background
A photograph of William Gladden Jr. standing in front of a red truck in an agricultural area in Apopka, c. 1960. Mr. Gladden worked as a Citrus Grove Manager for Sharp’s Grove Services of Apopka, Florida, until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Gladden is wearing a baseball cap bearing the Dicofol EC logo. Dicofol EC is an organochlorine miticide/pesticide primarily used to control mites on fruit, tea, and cotton crops. Historically, it was most used in the United States (specifically California and Florida) and India. Because of its toxicity to aquatic life, its global usage is now heavily restricted, banned in the EU, and phased out of American agricultural practices.
