Mr. Michael Gladden, 82, expired on Saturday. April 17, 1982, at Florida North Hospital after a prolonged illness. The Michael Gladden Family migrated to Apopka from Charleston, S.C. via Jacksonville, Florida in 1910. Mr. Gladden attended grade school in Apopka. His high school education was obtained from Georgia State College, Savannah, Georgia: Morehouse College, Atlanta Georgia and Bethune-Cookman College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

Mr. Gladden established the first Black Boy Scout Troop in Apopka. He held memberships in the Apopka Chamber of Commerce, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The Fonn Santon-ians and the Central Florida Morehouse College Alumni Club and was a very active member of the Black Apopka Cemetery Committee. In his own quiet manner he performed numerous civic duties and humane acts of kindness to his fellowmen.
