A photograph of the USS General W.A. Mann (AP-112) vessel, which William Gladden Jr. likely boarded during his service in the Vietnam War (June 25, 1950 – July 27, 1953). The USS General W.A. Mann was a General John Pope-class troop transport that served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Commissioned on October 13, 1943, the 622-foot ship transported thousands of troops and cargo across the Atlantic and Pacific, later receiving two Korean service stars and one Vietnam service star.
